There isn't a single word or phrase that can describe how amazing today was! (Except Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!). We had a late morning leaving at 9 o'clock to head out for the day! Wase - our Galoa village tour guide rode with us to his home village and introduced us to the ladies. The women were so sweet and the children were eager to play with us, however first, we had the welcoming and Kava ceremony first with Chief Burns and spokeswoman Mia. The kava had a very unique and earthy taste to it and we had a few rounds of it. Cheeehooo!
After kava, we all got the tour of the village and made friends with some of the children. All of the kids were so silly and friendly, leading us through the village, asking to play games and just having a good time. Once we were all set, we had a little more kava before we learned to make lolo buns! They're sweet and delicious, and some of us decided we need to make some at home! After making lolo buns, we ate lunch with lots of singing and dancing and some of us got to perform "Isalei Lia" (a Tahitian dance) with the group. This was followed by games and getting to know our new family.
Sadly, we left after a few hours of fun and said goodbye to everyone. Arriving home, many took naps while a few people went to the store. Those who stayed behind and were awake watched "Moana" before having a relaxing, "make your own dinner" (as everyone was too wiped out from the village to cook!). Now we're all just hanging out and getting to know each other until bed time. Bula Vinaka! : )
